Phil Stockford started in the garage equipment business in 1970 working as a
sales representative for a local diagnostic equipment dealer before moving on
to work for Applied Power in 1972 and the Wilcomatic Group in 1976. Phil
Stockford Garage Equipment was formed in 1981 and incorporated with limited
liability in 1985. The sole business in the early days was the supply of good
used equipment throughout the UK and this still accounts for about 15% of the
turnover today. The main focus of the company now, however, is the distribution
of new vehicle lifts from German manufacturer IME-Autolift GmbH and mobile
brushwash machines made by Steinbruckner GmbH, which is also based in Germany.
Over the past eight years the company has established itself as a major player
in these markets and is particularly strong in the truck and bus sector where
IME's good quality, low cost mobile column lifts continue to break sales
records year after year. Service and installation throughout the UK and Ireland
is looked after by a team of Field Service Engineers and Service Agents.
Clients include Local Authorities, Fire Brigades, Coach Operators, Commercial
Vehicle Repairers and Haulage Contractors.
The company also has vast experience in fitting out Car Dealerships, either in
the form of green field sites or modifications to existing premises. An
associate company, Mid Ocean Leasing Ltd. is able to source finance for the
purchase of all types of garage equipment.
The company can also supply clients in countries where there is no official
IME-Autolift distributor. High volume buying power and the strength of sterling
can make for attractive prices.
